The guidebooks didn't lie: Of all the sites, Delphi is easily the most impressive, if for no other reason than its spectacular location. Of course, the history of the place (Apollo's oracle seemed to play a role in most Greek events for a thousand years, whether historical events or fictional dramas) contributes to that feeling, as well. Delphi has a good museum, though half of it was closed for renovations.
We though to stay near but not in the town of Delphi. That didn't work. Galaxidi's hotels (down on the coast) were closed for the season, and those places higher into the mountains were booked up by skiers. But staying in Delphi wasn't so bad. And it meant one could literally walk from your hotel to the archeological site. (We didn't because we didn't realize how close the site was.)
