Epidavros, while most famous for the very well-preserved theater (where plays are still performed in the summer), was really an ancient center of healing, with a theatre as an added feature. This was the world of Asklepios: A deity who healed by miracles performed during ritualistic sleep and dreaming. As you can see from the photos, this is one of the many sites we visited where we were either alone, or nearly so. Apparently later in the day, and especially during the high season, it's common to share a site like this with hundreds of people. But no one seems to be there at 9am on a weekday in winter... Epidavros has a small but respectable museum.
